February
Last year we were thankful for the support of village people coming along to many of our fund raising events. Thanks to the generosity of our members and friends, the church was able to donate £1000 to seven other charities. We also raised enough money to put in the last two windows, buy five new tables and are well on our way to buying our new fire escape. Our small church was able to welcome four new children to the Sunday School, one new member to the church and two new babies, Harry Richardson and Matthew McCaughey.
With love and prayers from all of

Christmas
Christmas means so many things to so many people. Cards, mince pies, music,
carols, turkey, pudding, angels, lumpy Christmas stockings, holly, fruit cake,
garlands and gifts. But most of all, Christmas means love! The ways in which we celebrate may differ but the spirit will always remain - the spirit of sharing and giving, of well-wishing and warmth. And, at its centre, a baby born in a stable. If you would like to join us at Aley green this Christmas, here are some December dates for your diary.

Sun.10th 3:00pm Sunday School Christmas Concert and the Christening of Louise Isger. Afterwards tea will be served in the school room and Father Christmas has promised to pop in!
Mon 11th 7:30pm Our Christmas Meal: 3 courses. Adults £4, children £2.50. Tickets are from Sue on 480875
Sun 17th 11:00am Christingle Service.
Tues 19th 7:30 Candlelight Service in aid of National Children's Homes, action for children.

You cannot reach perfection, however hard you try. There's always one more friend you should have sent a card to!

May God's gifts of peace and love be with you this Christmastide and into the New Year too. With all good wishes from Ann and everyone at Aley Green Methodist Church.

November
A big thank you to everyone who came to our Good as New sale in September. We raised £245 towards our new fire escape. What was left over went to N.O.A.H Age Concern and to Heathfield Lower School, Caddington for their Jumble sale in November.
We were very pleased that 7 of our young people went on the 'Circuit' Youth weekend in October, great fun was had by all. Four of our Sunday School children collected £166.26 for J.M.A. We are holding a J.M.A service on Sunday 5th November at 11 a.m., where a New Shield and free standing cross will be dedicated to the Sunday School. On Sunday 19th November at 11 am a window will be dedicated to the Church in memory of Margret Smith, wife of Brian, who lives in Elaine Gardens, Woodside. Margret worked very hard in our church and we miss her very much.
A coffee evening will be held at the Church on November 22nd at 7:30 onwards. Christmas decorations, gifts and preserves will be on sale. So come along and treat yourself.

May

We at Aley Green church would like to thank everyone who came along to our Flower Festival last month. It was wonderful to welcome so many people. We are grateful to the village and circuit churches and members of our own congregation who donated money for the flowers, provided greenery and gave flower arrangements, cakes and preserves for the tea room. We raised £500 towards the Window Fund.

On April 9th we had a farewell service for Sarah Richardson, who had attended our church for almost 20 years. Sarah worked in our Sunday School for over ten years. We are sad to see her go and wish her every happiness. So now we are looking for a Sunday school teacher, as well as an organist: can you help us out?Call 733668 if you can, or would like further details.

Musical Help Needed

At the moment, we are desparately looking round for an organist to play at the Sunday Service, so if you could play for us, say once a month, Sue Sowley on 480875 would love to get your call.

Church Building

Last year we were very busy working hard for some improvements to the building. We raised enough funds to have four new windows fitted, redecoration and rearrangements to the toilet. Work goes on and Lorraine Law, our property steward, tells us that two more windows and a new fire escape are needed.

Fund raising

During 1999, we raised £1350 for a dozen charities including the Luton Churches Education trust, Noam (formally the Luton Day center for the homeless), the Luton Children’s Hospice and the Kosovo appeal.    None of this would have been achieved without the help of our church members and their families and the fantastic support of village people, so a big Thank You all round.

Flower festival

We are planning a Flower Festival over Mother’s day weekend, Friday March 31st to Sunday April 2nd: our theme is “New Beginnings”. We will be selling home made cakes, pies jam and chutney and teas in the school room; so why not drop in on us and have a chat over a cup of tea. We look forward to welcoming you
