Slip End Parish Emergency Plan
About three years ago all parishes in Bedfordshire were asked to write an Emergency Plan. We set up a small team to do this and we have continued to update and improve the plan on a regular basis.
The current Emergency plan team are
• Ken Crossett
• Steve Fuell
• David Kingston
• Nikki West
We would be happy to hear from any resident interested in getting involved and helping!
What does it cover?
We have an extensive list of different kinds of emergencies – and we consider the effect they may have on our Parish and what (if anything) we can do to reduce the risk of them happening.
We then look at all the facilities and resources we have such as
• People with useful skills
• Heavy lifting equipment, tractors etc
• Places where people could stay, if unable to remain in their own home (halls, schools, pubs etc)
We provide contact details and as much information as we can on all these things.
We consider people who would be particularly vulnerable – the elderly or disabled or those with no car who may find it difficult to leave their home quickly.
The Plan includes all sorts of useful contact numbers – so that everything is in one document.
A copy of the document is kept by the people on the team and a copy is also issued to the Police and the Disaster Resilience team at Central Bedfordshire.
If residents think it would be useful, we could publish it on this website, but we would need to get the permission of everyone included in the document. Let me know your views on this! And if you would just like to know more about the plan, please call Nikki West on 01582 402312.
And, most importantly, we ask for your help with the following:
• If you know of anyone who you think would be in difficulty if they had to evacuate their home in an emergency, please let us know so that we could advise the emergency services that they may need extra help
• If you have any skills that may be useful in an emergency and you would be willing for you name and phone number to be included in the report, please let us know. We would be very pleased to hear from those with nursing or medical qualifications, counselling skills, firefighters, those with building skills including electricians, plumbers etc.
Of course the emergency services would take over in any major disaster, but the more thought we give to our plan in advance, the better equipped we will be to support our own community and minimise the impact of an emergency event.
Thank you for reading this!
