Village Hall
Slip End Village Hall - 2009 - The Centenary Year
Happy Birthday to Slip End Village Hall - on 24th July 2009 it was 100 years old!
The date was celebrated by the errection of a flag pole outside the hall
The actual date Friday 24 July was celebrated by a Musical Hall where the entertainment was mostly provided by the Wilstead Players and Chris Barnes and Ken Crossett doing a Vicar of Dibley sketch followed by community singing the like of which has never been heard in the hall with great redictions of "Onward Christian Soldiers" which was sung at the original opening celebrations as well as "Jerusalem" and " God Save the Queen" accompanied by Mrs Barnes on the piano.
The 100 members of the audience and cast all had a fantastic evening. There has been a ground swell asking the Management Committee to do another one!
Built at the turn of the century the Village Hall is ideally situated in the heart of the community at the Slip End Crossroads.
Last year the hall was extensively updated. New facilities for the disabled, new kitchen with double sink and new cooker. The wooden storage shed has been replaced by a brick extension. Crucial to the parking has been the introduction of CCTV. There is a monitor on the stage and all movements are recorded on to tape.
With parking for 40 cars and an entertainment licence for 100 to dance or up to 200 for a meeting, the Hall is ideal for bookings. There is a bar area and local publicans are often happy to provide a bar facility.
Bookings are rated at £7 per hour, (£8 for non residents) and can be made with Mrs Gillian Plummer on 01582 723109. Ideal for private functions, wedding receptions and fundraising events for local organisations
